Wilson Paulose is (no) More With Us
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.... there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness...” 2 Tim 4:7.

Our beloved brother Wilson Paulose a zealous lay missionary of the Santvana Community completed his race on 14th July 2004 at 10.30 a.m. He being one of the first members of the community had been a strong pillar of it. I would not say that the pillar was pulled down but instead, all of a sudden, by the grace of God, it pierced the roof and grew up to heaven. So Santvana has a powerful intercessor among the company of the holy souls

A zealous missionary couple

On 29th of April 2004 Wilson married Jancy. This marriage was the fruit of years of prayerful waiting on the part of Wilson as well as Jancy. Both of them had one desire and same prayer. Lord if at all I should marry, help me to find a life partner with whom I could continue the ministry of preaching the Word of God. Their prayer found answer when through the mediation of some friends Wilson came to know about Jancy, from Cochin. Jancy has been serving as preacher for six years in the Charismatic Retreat center Chitoor, Ernakulam, in Kerala. Soon after their marriage they hurried to our Community in Agra to co-ordinate a North Indian Jesus Youth Convention (May, 20-24) and children’s Convention (May, 26-29) in Agra. Wilson had been the co-ordinator of the Agra Community. After the convention the newly wedded missionary couple left for Varanasi for Jancy to participate in a Hindi language course from 26th May to 20th June. After the Hindi course they proceeded to the Diocese of Bijnor in the valley of Himalayas to conduct another youth retreat there from (June, 23-26). After returning from Bijnor both of them joined other members of the community to prepare for the 40 days Jesus Youth Full timers (mission volunteers for one year) formation programme from 3rd July to 10th August at Don Bosco Provincial House Okhla, Delhi. Wilson was the programme co-ordinator. Jancy was one of the participants of the programme

Close to the finishing point

On the afternoon of 12th July as he was counselling one of the participants he began to feel tired and drowsy...rested for a while...but his uneasiness increased...so at 6p.m he was taken to the Holy Family Hospital next door. His blood pressure was reported to be very low, was administered glucose drips and some medicines. By 8.00 p.m. he recovered strength, returned and joined the group for supper. Thereafter as he was sitting with the group to listen to the evaluation of the day’s programme he suddenly vomited and collapsed. At 10 p.m. was re admitted in the hospital. His B.P. was found to be very low. Further medical investigations began. On13th early in the morning his condition was found to be deteriorating and at 7.10 a.m. he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. Doctors reported a multiple vital organ failure. The scanning results showed that his intestines were badly infected. His entire body was bleeding internally. Medications and life sustaining supports could not make any improvement in his condition; at 5 p.m. he was given the sacrament of the annointing of the sick, meanwhile he had already lost the consciousness. The function of lungs and pulse continued to slow down. On 14 morning at 10.30 a.m. doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile Jancy was going through a terrible crisis. The community kept praying and supporting her.

Jancy and the community’s struggle of faith

All through she kept praying and saying my Lord will heal him. By 8 a.m. I suggested to her to surrender Wilson to the Lord. She protested saying “No, no I cannot; I have no strength to do it. “ “The comforter Holy Spirit will strengthen you,” I told her. She said: “I do not know”!! Sometime later after much prayer I did the most pain full job of conveying to Jancy the news about the departure of Wilson. She broke down and cried out, “Why did you not answer my prayer my God?” She struggled with her faith. Next day just at the moment of the burial she made a loud victorious cry saying, “The Lord has given, the Lord has taken, blessed be the name of the Lord.” It manifested the supporting presence of the Holy Spirit in her. It was a powerful witness of faith that touched the heart of every one.

Wilson’ roots

Wilson hailed from Mangalamdam, Palakkad district in Kerala as the third son of late Mr.Paulose Mundanplackal and Mrs. Mariamma. He was born on 29-1-1971. He has three brothers, Benny and Shaji elder to him and Jenson younger. Three years ago Shaji became paralyzed and is now bedridden due to a car accident in Saudi Arabia. All the four brothers are emotionally very close to one another. As a youth Wilson had no faith in God. He some how wanted to make his identity, so through hard effort became a Karate black belt and later a Karate instructor. It was in 1993, while he was doing his post graduation (M.Com) he participated in a Charismatic retreat in Divine retreat Center when the Lord touched him and gave him a new life and a new mission. Then onwards he served in a retreat Center at Kothamangalam, lead by Rev.Fr. James Kakkuzhy, later he became part of the Jesus Youth movement and then served as the acting co-ordinator of the JY Kothamangalam zone. In the year 1997 seeing the advertisement of our discipleship formation programme he came to participate in it. During the Disciple’s formation program I found him to be a man of principles, a man of intense prayer and had a great zeal for evangelization. In July 97 he came with me to Varanasi to serve in the mission. Later in 98 he was transferred to our community in Agra. On 1st February 2004, Wilson made his formal commitment as a lay missionary in Santvana Community. On April 29th was the marriage of Wilson and Jancy. In May, 2004 he was suggested to be a member of Jesus Youth National Team to represent North India.

Our victory in Christ

None of us knew that Wilson was close to the finishing point of his missionary journey. He indeed fought the good fight; he kept his faith and left for his eternal reward. Wilson and Jancy wanted together to preach the Good news to all Nations. But God had a different plan. Both of them will surely continue to serve the kingdom, Jancy will continue to preach and Wilson, from heaven, will support her and the entire community by his powerful intercession. All these trials have only strengthened Jancy and the community. The holy Spirit has enabled us to say with St. Paul “What can separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution... Yes in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” Rm8, 35-37
